Claire Schloemer, PhD student in the Groves Lab, was recently selected as a recipient of the 2025 Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) Fellowship. The Fellows program provides career guidance to the next generation of food and agriculture scientists and intends to prepare fellows for STEM-based careers. The mentorship program equips students with the skills needed to facilitate their transition to the workforce and prepare future food and agriculture leaders. Before coming to UW-Madison, Claire received her MS from Auburn University where she researched integrated pest management solutions in sweet potato production. Her research in the Groves lab focuses on management of Potato Virus Y in seed potato production, specifically on the use of next-generation reduced-risk insecticides with the goal of phasing out the use of neonicotinoid insecticides.
