I’m a bioacoustician and sensory ecologist. My research interests include insect behavior, evolution, communication, and sensory physiology. Currently, I’m using acoustic technology to detect pest insects infesting various agricultural products. Pest insects create vibrations, either actively or incidentally, while feeding on crops and stored grain. In the Bick lab, we are developing tools to detect these vibrations, identify the type of insects that create them, and alert practitioners to the presence of damaging pests. Ultimately, my goal is to leverage knowledge of insect behavior and sensory biology to develop sustainable methods for pest monitoring and management.
