 |
The family Glaresidae, originally placed as a tribe in the Trogidae, was elevated to
family status in 1987. Glaresids are considered to be the oldest, most primitive members
of the Scarabaeoidea. This family is monotypic, containing only one genus, Glaresis.
Natural history information is almost nonexistent for this family. Adults have been
collected at light, and the larval stages remain unknown. Eleven species occur in North
America; only one, Glaresis inducta Horn, occurs in Wisconsin.
