Hololepta lucida

This ambitious study seeks to identify all species of the beetle family Histeridae occurring in Wisconsin and to collect important biological and distributional information about each species. A wide variety of collecting techniques has been employed in an expansive sampling effort throughout the state. Special emphasis has been placed on targeting rarely sampled microhabitats. Currently, over 90 species are known to occur in Wisconsin.

Bluff prairie

This research constitutes a baseline survey of the faunal composition of Aphaenogaster ant nest communities under rocks on bluff prairies in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. These ant colonies represent cryptic communities of which we have little knowledge. This study strives to fill gaps in our knowledge and to serve as a springboard for further, more in-depth studies.

Pocket gopher pushup

In collaboration with Kerry Katovich and Nadine Kriska. This study, initiated in 1998 by Katovich and Kriska, is a survey of the arthropods associated with the pocket gopher across its range in Wisconsin. The subterranean burrow systems of these mammals harbor a unique and poorly known arthropod fauna that has received little attention in this region of North America.

Hister Beetle Homage logo

We live in an electronic age. More and more information is becoming available via the internet each and every day. Along with this ever-expanding electronic information base has come the challenge of identifying and locating relevant internet information resources. Existing search engines can only do so much. This website constitutes an attempt to centralize some of the available resources regarding the beetle family Histeridae.
